Five Web5 things I read, watched, explored during the last 7 days.

Welcome back to the Web5 newsletter!

It’s been a while because, by the end of last year, I realized I had to change the concept of this newsletter. The reason is very simple: I just couldn’t read and write fast enough for the format it had been in before.

From now on you’ll get a fresh round-up of Web5 issues in your inbox every Friday. Five links show you what, in my opinion, has been important in the Web5 orbit during the last few days.

Web5 is a new, decentralized web in which there is no censorship by governments or BigTech owners. The aim is also that everyone is the owner of his identity. In short: Web5 is the better Internet of the future.

And here we go.

1. Taming the Titans

This is a very exciting podcast about BigTech and human rights by Article19. An apt summary of the current state of our economy and laws. It becomes clear who benefits and who pays. Very worth listening to.

2. Zion app V2

Zion is a Web5 community app from the environment of Jack Dorsey’s TBD. Last week they launched their V2 and I had a glance at the Android app. My first impression: you need an email address to register, which is not very impressive for a Web5 app. Apart from this, it is made for creators and their communities, it has a clean and pleasant design, and you can send money based on the Bitcoin Lightning Network. But have a look yourself!

3. UK: BigTech could soon be behind bars

It’s an impressive law that is planned in the UK: the Online Safety Bill. BigTech has to deal with deep fakes, hate speech, and cyber flashing. Violating the law would make the CEO end up in jail. Sounds really crazy.

4. WTF is Nostr?

Last week I dived into the decentralized network called Nostr. It was inspiring to experience that new communication and account setup. The Nostr protocol was supported by Jack Dorsey & friends, and it feels like the future of communication. More than this, Nostr and similar protocols can completely change our way of consuming and communicating online. About my first days on Nostr, I wrote a Twitter thread (but don’t tell the Nostr ppl 🤣) You can read it here on Typefully.

By the way, I like the Nostr bird. Funny, isn’t it? 😂

5. This video tool is so crazy

Runway shows that video shoots will be unnecessary soon. Just sit down at your computer and choose the locations and people you need!

Thanks for reading this.

Please give me feedback on Twitter, LinkedIn, or Nostr.

See you next week!
