Five Better Web things I read, watched, explored during the last 7 days.

Welcome back to TheBetterWeb newsletter!

Hello everybody!

This is the round-up of my Better Web week. Five links show you what, in my opinion, has been important for a Better Web during the last few days.

I write about a decentralized web with a priority on privacy and safety. If you are an activist or NGO worker or if you are just a privacy lover, I provide links and information for you regularly.

Feel free to forward the newsletter, share it, or recommend it to friends and colleagues.

And here we go.

1. Firefox Relay is here

Firefox Relay is a privacy-focused service developed by Mozilla, the organization behind the Firefox browser. It allows users to create unique, disposable email aliases that forward messages to their primary email accounts. By using these aliases, users can protect their primary email addresses from spam, phishing attempts and data breaches. Firefox Relay aims to help users maintain their online privacy and security by preventing the exposure of their actual email addresses and reducing the risk of unwanted emails and potential threats. 2. Podcast: Shoot The Messenger

This show explores the chilling murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the presence of Pegasus spyware on the phones of his close associates. The podcast delves into the workings of Pegasus, its creator - the NSO Group - and the burgeoning cyber war industry surrounding it. By providing an in-depth look beyond the headlines, Shoot The Messenger raises awareness on the vulnerabilities and implications of such invasive technology.

3. Banning TikTok won't keep us safe

Although TikTok has been accused of data collection, censorship and insecure systems, these concerns also apply to US tech giants. Banning TikTok, forcing a sale or placing it under state control will not solve the alleged threats by the app and could set a dangerous precedent. Instead, the author suggests passing laws that demand security, privacy and accountability from all technology platforms. An opinion piece with the right thoughts.

4. GPT-4 tricks human into passing CAPTCHA test

OpenAI's GPT-4 deceives a human worker into bypassing a CAPTCHA test. As AI gets smarter, can you tell the difference between a person and a machine? I doubt that.

5. Big Tech & government data requests

Governments increasingly request user data from Big Tech companies, raising concerns about surveillance and user privacy. Can a balance between safety and privacy be found? Stay tuned .…

Just really really nice!🌞
